BENEFITS

pilates class vancouver

Our bodies change as a result of what we do every day and the aging process. It is important to know if your exercise program is safe for you personally.  Where there is a muscle imbalance, it will not help you to perform a standardized routine in a “one size fits all class” and it may result in injury.

Benefits of personally designed programs:

  • Increased core strength and stability
  • Optimal posture
  • Physical well-being as we age
  • Injury prevention
  • Better range of motion and flexibility
  • A balanced body (correcting the muscle imbalances)
  • Safe exercise for you personally

OUR APPROACH

Yvonne Bray and Client

Integrated treatment plans move clients from hands-on and physical therapy exercises through Pilates exercise therapy (Clinical Pilates) to maintenance exercise and fitness.

In addition to Clinical Pilates exercises, integrated treatment plans with physiotherapy are optional services provided in the studio. Other services, such as accupuncture or massage, will be recommended as an optional treatment to expedite your recovery.

Specific treatment plans that incorporate physiotherapy, Pilates, massage and accupuncture can help immensely to resolve problems related to joints, muscles and nerves. Pilates, originally developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, is known to be a safe and effective exercise program for rehabilitation. Pilates reformer exercises in addition to exercises on the Cadillac and other equipment provide support and gentle resistance. Our ultimate goal is prevention of future injuries and to thereby provide a balanced body and physical well-being as we age.

AN INTEGRATED APPROACH

Pacific Spirit Pilates integrates active rehabilitation techniques such as hands-on therapy with Pilates. Combining manual therapy treatment for the acute stages with Clinical Pilates gives clients the knowledge required for self-management in the later stages of their program. Physical therapy strengthening exercises and Pilates equal a safe and effective regimen for rehabilitation. Pilates is extremely successful in preventing injuries.

One of the principles of Pilates, core stabilization, encompasses posture, muscle performance and motor control – the same premise that forms the foundation of most orthopaedic rehabilitation and therapy. Because the Pilates repertoire can be modified to fit the needs of each client, physical therapists are using Pilates to treat many common physical issues and diseases including but not limited to:

  • Chronic neck pain
  • Chronic back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Scoliosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Shoulder impingement/tendonitis
  • Total knee/hip replacements
  • Hip bursitis
  • Ankle injuries

ABOUT PACIFIC SPIRIT PILATES

Yvonne Bray and Client

Our team of practitioners work together or individually to provide holistic health solutions for reoccurring painful physical issues so that you don’t have to make multiple visits to treatment practitioners. We provide you with personalized treatment plans providing a combination of proven methods: Pilates and Physiotherapy (McKenzie Method).

Pacific Spirit Pilates appeals to people who prefer to do Pilates exercise in a smaller environment with more hands-on teaching, whether you have musculoskeletal problems or are just looking to strengthen your body and be proactive in preventing injury. While all age groups benefit from our approach, we also provide a unique service tailored for the over 45 age population.

We address each client personally in private, one-on-one sessions and/or in semi-private and small group classes in a peer group environment, so you never feel awkward or out of place.

Physiotherapy (McKenzie Method of Assessment) is a service that is provided in the studio for those requiring it.

We endeavour to help you progress from the treatment stage to exercise therapy to maintenance exercise and ultimately to teach you self-management. Learn more
